In 2023, the public transport network of London was ranked 10th best in the world. The city is served by trains (underground and overground), buses (those iconic red ones) and ferries (across the Thames).
The easiest way to travel long distances in London by public transport is by using an Oyster card or tapping your debit or credit card.
However, for shorter distances, London is an ideal city for walking in.
In terms of world rankings, a study by the Institute for Transportation and Development Policy (ITDP), found that London scored highly for its walkability. It was only beaten by a handful of other European cities, including Paris and Bristol.
