Clues & Challenges
Clues don't require any prior knowledge and are generally made up of two parts:
1) Obscured directions that make reference to the city around you. Unravel their meaning and be guided by your surroundings.
2) A puzzle to be solved once you've followed the directions, search nearby to find your answers.
Guided by clues sent to your phone
- Receive snippets of history, quirky facts and intriguing stories about the areas you visit.
- Pub/cafe breaks along your hunt, all totally optional and some with discounts on food & drinks.
- Make memories at locations along the way, get inspiration from previous teams and share a clever snap!

If you’re an escape room aficionado, you’ll have noticed that our Sheffield escape rooms are a bit different to what you might have played before.
If you’ve never played an escape game before, allow us to break them down for you.
Typically, escape rooms involve being locked in a room and having to solve puzzles to get out. Sometimes they are themed, challenges and difficulties vary between games, and it’s a whole heap of fun for everyone involved.
At CityDays, as our name suggests, we take a different approach. Instead of locking you away in a room somewhere, we use the ample space cities provide to create Sheffield escape rooms outdoors.
How does that work, you might wonder? Well, we’ll tell you. Here are the main benefits of our outdoor escape rooms in Sheffield…
Your Escape “Room” is Bigger:
When you aren’t confined to just one room or building, the world really does become your oyster. Instead of being locked up in a tiny space, we get you racing through Sheffield’s city streets filled with hidden secrets, odd passageways and murky mysteries!
More Freedom: Since we don’t physically occupy a building, we won’t restrict you to opening hours or available booking slots. You decide when you play - not us (although we do recommend playing during daylight hours. Some of our clues can be difficult to spot when it’s dark!). Otherwise, it’s entirely up to you.
Play With Who You Want: Again, the city is your playground so whether you want to play on your own or with five hundred (or even more!) people, we can accommodate you! For groups of over 8 people, we recommend splitting into teams and going head-to-head: it makes it more fun if everyone can read the clues, and hey, who doesn’t love a competitive element…

A Varied Selection of Puzzles: Who knew that Sheffield was so “riddled” with mysteries? Well, we did. And you’re about to find out! You’ll encounter puzzles, riddles, tasks and challenges on our routes that have been designed to get you observing and interacting with your surroundings in a unique way.
How CityDays’ Escape Rooms Sheffield Work
Since our Sheffield escape “rooms” are held outdoors, they’re “built” slightly differently. After all, since there are no physical barriers to get through or doors to unlock, you might be wondering what the object of the game is…
Well, it’s really very simple.
You and your team start at a chosen location (depending on which trail you pick).
From there, you have to complete a set of tasks, puzzles and riddles, deciphering clues to take you to your next location, sent to your phone(s) via WhatsApp. If you don’t give us the right answer, you can’t move on in the game!
When you’ve sent us the correct answer, you’ll be given new clues and challenges to lead you to your next destination. Each location is located a short walking distance away, and may require you to keep your eyes peeled for possible clues along the way…
Once you’ve answered all our clues, visited all the destinations and completed the trail, we’ll tally up your score. This is based on how many correct answers you got, any time penalties you accrued, and how many hints you asked for.
All you need to play our games is a phone with Whatsapp or Telegram, access to cellular data and a pair of comfy shoes. That’s it!
