Best Singapore Date Ideas (According to us!)
Turn a Romantic Stroll Into a Fascinating Treasure Hunt
Location: Various
Looking for date ideas in Singapore that are romantic, fun, and a little bit different? Allow me to introduce you to treasure hunting!
If you’ve never been on a treasure hunt before, think of them as a kind of outdoor escape room/walking tour.
The game is entirely in your hands (quite literally) as you’ll be sent puzzles, riddles and clues via WhatsApp that take you around Singapore’s hidden corners and tucked-away spots.
Much more fun than just your typical walk through Singapore, treasure hunts like these allow you to figure out your partner’s problem-solving styles, sense of humour and, yes, if their sense of direction is anything to brag about!
Practical Information: Tickets cost $30 per person and the game can be started (or stopped) at any time you like (great if a sudden downpour threatens to put a halt to your romance!).
Take Your Date To One of The Cutest (and Fuzziest) Cafes in Town
Location: Various
I’ll be honest and say I fall in love at least once a day, sometimes multiple times, just by walking around Singapore. The only problem is the recipients of my love typically have four legs, fur, paws and sometimes claws - and I don’t think I’m alone in that.
If you’re looking for cute date ideas in Singapore, it (probably) doesn’t get cuter than sitting with your date surrounded by adorable animals and sipping on some great kopi or tea.
What Singapore lacks in size it more than makes up for in variety, so don’t worry cat people and dog lovers: I’ve got recommendations for both of you!
For feline fanatics:
Pat-a-Cat: A cat lounge where you can get your fill of cute cats, coffee and cuddles. It’s also an adoption centre expertly cared for by the lovely owner, Connie.
Wildflower Studio: A wonderful space where you can get creative with your date by having an art jam surrounded by cats looking for their forever homes.
Pup pals:
What The Pug: An adorable dog cafe filled with pugs. Need I say more? Owner Zack is friendly and polite and I recommend booking online in advance.
Chow Cute: It’s impossible not to smile when you see a Chow Chow, so prepare for lots of grinning. The food here is superb and you’re also allowed to bring your own dog along for the fun!
Practical Information: Opening hours and entry fees vary by location. Visit the respective websites for more details like menu offerings and any required reservations.
Visit Yueh Hai Ching, The Temple of Love, Together
Location: Philip Street, Central Singapore
If you haven’t heard of Yueh Hai Ching temple – or, as it’s locally known, the Temple of Love – I’m guessing you might not be Singaporean. Not to worry, you’ll know of it hereafter!
From the outside, Yueh Hai Ching looks like yet another gorgeous, historic taoist temple. It’s all there: detailed tiles, ornate carvings, vivid colours - but what really sets this place apart for me is the folklore attached to it.
Local legend has it that people have been rumoured to find love after visiting the temple. The temple is primarily associated with Yue Lao, the god of marriage and love, who is said to bind predestined partners with an invisible red thread, and Tian Hou, a sea goddess who also looks over relationships.
And even if you aren’t superstitious or have differing beliefs, you can’t deny it’s a great story to tell someone you’re trying to impress!
Practical Information: Open daily from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Entry is free, but donations are appreciated.
Snap Some Cute Selfies at a Korean Self-Photo Studio
Location: Multiple locations across Singapore
Looking for Singapore date ideas that allow you to bring home a memento from your date? Check this out!
Create fun, lasting memories at a Korean-style self-photo studio. These studios are equipped with high-tech cameras and various props and backgrounds, allowing you and your date to experiment with different looks and themes. It’s a playful and creative way to capture moments together – and it allows you to show your sillier, softer side.
Practical Information: Sessions usually last about an hour. Prices and exact studio locations can be found on selfphotostudio.sg.
Check Out Singapore’s Hidden Gem Museums
Location: Various
If you ask me, there’s nothing like a museum to cement a bonding session.
For some reason, many people seem to associate going to museums with school field trips or “boring” history lessons at school. Well, you’ll be pleased to know that there’s a real variety of amazing museums in Singapore– and they cover topics you probably wouldn’t expect in a classroom!
From film history to interactive exhibits, these museums offer diverse and intriguing experiences that are both educational and entertaining for a date. Here are some of my top recommendations!
The Cathay Gallery: Perfect for film buffs and cinema lovers! Take a deep dive into Singapore and Malaysia’s cinematic origins, get up close with vintage costumes and equipment and see the evolution of cinema in SEA.
The Live Turtle and Tortoise Museum: A great opportunity to meet these wonderful sea and land creatures in person. Keep an eye out for the lucky Sulcata Tortoise and get your wishes granted from the Malaysian Giant River Turtle!
Former Ford Factory: A must for military history lovers, this is where the British in Singapore formally surrendered to Japan during WWII. A poignant, sad, but fascinating museum with interesting exhibits.
JCU Museum of Video and Computer Games: The Singapore Campus of James Cook University can help you learn about all sorts of things - including one of the world’s most popular hobbies! This is a great museum but you have to make an appointment to visit - worth it!
Practical Information: Opening hours and ticket prices vary. The Cathay Gallery is free, while others may charge an admission fee. Visit the respective websites for current information and special exhibitions.
Fun Date Ideas in Singapore
Cool Off and Get Some Gelato or Ice Cream Together
Location: Various
Looking for date ideas in Singapore that are short and sweet? Trust gelato to get the job done for you.
I don’t need to explain why ice cream is a good idea - especially when Singapore’s tropical heat is making you feel like you’re living inside a shower cabin. But honestly, treating your significant other to a cooling dessert is as practical as it is romantic (and it’s a nice tradition to carry forward, in my opinion).
Luckily for you, I’ve taken the burden upon myself (and my partner) to figure out where Singapore’s best ice creams and gelato is to be found. You’ll find my favourites below!
Moin Moin: Incredible, artisanal gelato. “London Fog” (Earl Grey tea with lavender) has a special place in my heart, but I also highly recommend the waffles here (soooo crispy!).
Birds of Paradise: The gelato is as lovely as the name. Famed for their botanical flavours, my go-to is the White Chrysanthemum. Yuuuuum.
Tom’s Palette: These guys have somehow made savoury ice cream delicious - although, my sweet tooth always tells me to order the pistachio. What can I say, I’m a creature of habit.
Practical Information: Visit the respective websites for opening hours and menu offerings.
Go for a Romantic Cycle Ride Together
Location: Island-wide
If you’re a sporty couple who feel most at home in a gym, I’d recommend taking your workouts to the great outdoors with a romantic cycle ride.
There are so many cycle tracks and trails dotted around Singapore, so the only real issue you’ll have is picking where to go.
Whether you decide to pedal along the breezy East Coast Park or the picturesque Punggol Waterway, cycling together is a great way to enjoy Singapore's outdoors and spend quality time together - and it’s good for you, too!
Practical Information: Bike rentals are available across various points in the city. Consider renting a tandem bike for an added twist of fun and teamwork!
Add Your Names to The High Score Board at Time Zone
Location: Multiple locations across Singapore
Are arcade dates a bit childish? Maybe. Does that matter? No, in my opinion, some of the most fun date ideas in Singapore can be had with little else but some competitive spirit (and air con!).
Wherever you are in Singapore, you’re never too far from a Time Zone. And you know what that means: it’s game time!
Challenge each other to arcade games at Time Zone and see who can clinch the top scores. Whether you enjoy music games (I’m a Dance Revolution devotee), claw machines, air hockey, classic arcade games… you name it, you’ll find it here!
Practical Information: For locations and opening hours, visit timezonegames.com. Costs vary by game but prepare to spend around SGD 20-30 for a fulfilling gaming experience.
Hang Out at One of Singapore’s Most Beautiful Parks or Gardens
Location: Various
On the hunt for Singapore date ideas that won’t cost an arm and a leg? Yeah, me too, pal. But in all seriousness, there is fun to be had in our city-state…if you don’t mind hanging out in public.
Save your cash and do your minds and bodies some good by escaping into the greenery. If it’s not too hot, throw yourselves down in the shade and sit and talk to one another - or bring along a card game if you’re unsure what to talk about. It helps break the ice and feels like you’re “doing” something, even if it’s very chilled and relaxed.
Here’s where my partner and I like to hang out:
Bishan Park (aka Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park): Plenty of space and a great place to have a picnic. Also wonderful for spotting wildlife!
Bay East Garden: Currently under renovation (June 2024) but check out the Flower Dome for upcoming events, they’re always really neat!
Labrador Park: Offers hiking trails, a waterfront promenade, and remnants of World War II bunkers, making it a popular spot for nature lovers and history buffs alike
Practical Information: All parks are open daily and entry is free. Check nparks.gov.sg for any special events or alerts.
Visit Some of Singapore’s Book Heavens
Location: Kinokuniya, Various Libraries
Looking for Singapore date ideas that appeal to book-loving couples like yourselves? Look no further!
Even if you’re not a huge reader, the many bookstores around Singapore are perfect places to retreat to when it’s too hot (nearly always), raining (not great during a date) or just to get some much needed peace and quiet.
Browse through extensive collections, find books that interest you, and maybe enjoy some quiet reading together - these are my recommendations!
Kinokuniya: A Japanese bookstore with many titles in English. This place always inspires me to read something new, and it’s just so cosy and lovely inside.
Littered With Books: Great if you don’t know what you want to read next! Browse the shelves and stumble across new reads.
Wardah Books: Sells Islamic books in English, and has a really peaceful, serene atmosphere.
Basheer: Nostalgic and renowned for selling graphic novels.
Books Beyond Borders: Supports girls’ education in Nepal, so your book purchase will help promote education for others.
Practical Information: Bookstores and libraries all have varying opening hours, which can be checked on their websites. Access to libraries is free - so it’s worth popping in there to save some cash!
Attend a Free Concert or Event
Location: Botanic Garden, Esplanade
Singaporean or not, you’ll have noticed by now that finding cheap things to do is a little like finding a needle in a haystack. But actually, there are free events going on all around us - you’ve just gotta know where to find ‘em!
Enjoy the magic of live music or learn a new skill without spending a dime at one of Singapore's free concerts or events.
Whether you're learning about nature sketching on the lush greens of the Botanic Garden or enjoying the waterfront ambiance at Esplanade, these concerts offer a variety of genres in stunning settings - and your date will be super impressed about your insider knowledge!
Practical Information: Check the respective websites for schedules and upcoming performances and to find out what’s on. Concerts are typically held during the weekend and are subject to weather conditions.
Hire a Tennis Court For an Hour or Two (Or play Doubles on a Double Date)
Location: Various
Looking for Singapore date ideas that you can “serve” up without entering a kitchen? Listen closely!
Putting aside my feeble puns, tennis is a great option if you’re looking for an activity to do with your date at fairly short notice.
Whether it’s challenging each other to a friendly match or teaming up for doubles on a double date, it’s a great way to get active together and spend some quality time - and it counts as a workout!
Practical Information: Book a court online through platforms like coachxt.sg. Prices and availability vary by location and time, typically starting around SGD 20 per hour.
Enjoy a Cup of Kopi (Or Something Stronger) Together
Location: Island-wide
Whether it’s starting your date with a traditional Singaporean Kopi at a local kopitiam or winding down with cocktails at a chic bar, enjoying a drink together is a perfect way to chat and connect on your date.
If you aren’t Singaporean, you might be surprised to learn that consuming alcohol on dates is fairly uncommon - with one study stating that around 88% of Singaporeans prefer not to drink on dates. That’s when a cup of kopi can be handy - it’s casual, low-key and accessible (and yes, delicious!).
Practical Information: Kopitiams are open from early morning till late evening, and most bars in the city centre operate till midnight or later. Prices for kopi start at around SGD 1.50, with cocktails ranging from SGD 15 upwards.
Give Stand Up Paddle Boarding a Try
Location: Ola Beach Club in Sentosa, Aloha Sea Sports Centre at East Coast Park, and Constant Wind Sea Sports Centre in Changi
Make a splash with a stand-up paddle boarding session, a fun and engaging way to enjoy Singapore’s scenic waterways and to spice up your Singapore date ideas!
Suitable for all fitness levels, it’s a great way to add adventure to your date. Besides, if your balance is anything like mine (non-existent), it’s funny when you get it wrong at the beginning, and you’ll probably pick it up in no time!
Practical Information: Sessions can be booked in advance and typically start at around SGD 35 per hour. Training and equipment are provided by the centres.
Get Creative at a Sip ‘N Paint with Paintblush
Location: Multiple locations across Singapore
Looking to impress your art-loving lover or to show off your own creative skills to them? Try a Sip ‘N Paint session with Paintblush!
Whether you’re a novice or a seasoned artist, this experience allows you to create art in a relaxed, fun environment with a drink in hand. If you need guidance, opt for a session with an instructor - or give yourself over to creative expression and just create whatever your heart tells you on a non-guided session.
Either way, you get to relax, have fun, and take home a memento from your date.
Practical Information: Sessions usually last two to three hours, with prices starting from SGD 28 per person, including all materials. It’s BYO, so bring along something you like to sip. Check availability and book in advance at Paintblush.
